Tips to Maintain Good Hygiene and Health While Self-Isolating
Staying at home can help stop coronavirus from spreading.
However, self-isolation isn’t enough – you still need to maintain good hygiene to keep yourself and the people you care about happy and healthy.
At IRL Properties, we care about your health. Below, we share some home hygiene tips that everyone can put into practice.
Hygiene and Health in Living Areas
Everyone comes together in the living room. It is also the first room that people come into from the outside so there’s sure to be germs and bacteria lurking. Here are some tips to keep your living areas clean:
- Wipe surfaces down. The areas that everyone comes into contact with – door handles, tables, couches, etc. – should be the first places that you wipe down to prevent bacteria and germs from spreading.
- Clean your doormats. Clean the doormats inside and outside your doorways. Dust them off. Wipe them down. Clean them thoroughly so that shoes don’t transfer the dirt from your mat to your home.
- Blow your nose properly. This tip is for everyone. You must dispose of tissues as soon as you’re finished using them so that any germs are contained before they can spread. Place a trash can in every room for you to easily dispose of used tissues.
Hygiene and Health Tips for the Kitchen
Good hygiene is especially important in the kitchen because it is where we prepare and consume food. While there is no evidence suggesting that COVID-19 is passed on through food, maintaining good hygiene in the kitchen is still important.Good hygiene is especially important in the kitchen because it is where we prepare and consume food. - Clean surfaces after preparing eggs and raw meat. Eggs and raw meat are the most common sources of harmful bacteria in the kitchen. Make sure to thoroughly clean surfaces after preparation.
- Use washable dishcloths. Dishcloths can harbor germs and bacteria, particularly if they have been stored wet or if they’ve touched raw food. Washable dishcloths can be decontaminated by giving them a thorough hand wash or by putting them in the washing machine.
- Practice proper hand hygiene. Before handling food and utensils, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly. Practice proper hand hygiene.
Looking After Your Health and Well-Being at Home
To help yourself – and the others around you – stay well while at home, make sure to:
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Do light exercises.
- Eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
- Practice good hygiene, particularly proper handwashing.
Furthermore, now that ‘enhanced community quarantine’ has been implemented, everyone must strictly stay at home. Staying at home means that you should:
- Not go to school, work, malls, restaurants, and other public areas
- Not use public transportation or taxis
- Not have visitors, such as friends and other family members, in your home
- Not go out to hang out with family and friends
If you must go out, make sure that you only do so when strictly necessary (i.e. when you need to buy medicine or groceries). When you are out and about, make sure to practice social distancing. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you sneeze or cough and wash your hands thoroughly when you get home.
The Bottom Line
By staying at home, you can help stop coronavirus from spreading. However, just because you are at home doesn’t mean you can become too complacent – make sure that you still practice good hygiene. By practicing good hygiene, you can keep yourself and the people living with you happy and safe from this pandemic.
Stay safe and healthy!
